Montreal’s first ever Rock Camp for Girls will be held August 3 - 7, 2009 with the Showcase concert on Saturday August 8!

What’s Rock Camp?
Rock Camp for Girls is a 5 day music camp where girls learn and practice instruments, form a band and write a song together, and perform at the Showcase Concert! Rock Camp is a space where girls discover and express their talents, and become leaders in creating their own kind of music!

What to Expect
Rock Camp for Girls is a 5 day music camp for girls aged 10-17. During your week at Rock Camp for Girls you will learn and practice instruments, form a band and write a song together, and perform at the Showcase Concert on the Saturday following camp. Female musicians will offer music instruction, technical and sound instruction, and coach your band during band practices. The instrument choices for 2009 are guitar, bass, drums or you can practice your vocals.

In addition to working on music, we offer workshops about self-esteem and leadership development. Topics that have been offered at other Rock Camps include self-defense, ‘zine making, media literacy and critical thinking, do it yourself booking, silk-screening, image and identity. The workshops for 2009 will be posted soon!

This is a great chance to meet other girls and musicians in the Montreal community and show off your new skills! You don’t need any previous music experience to apply.

Who can apply?
Any girl who will be between the ages of 10 and 17 at the time of camp may apply. You do not have to live in Montreal to attend*. You do not need to have any musical experience or own instruments to attend! Rock Camp for Girls Montreal welcomes campers who identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming.

Please note that the 2009 camp will be run primarily as an Anglophone space. We recognize the need for bilingual spaces and programming in Montreal, and are striving to make our camp a bilingual space for future years.

Rock Camp for Girls Montreal aims to keep its programming accessible to all campers regardless of their economic situation. We offer partial or full scholarships, simply fill out and attach the scholarship form with your application.

Where is this Camp?
Camp this year will be at the Ukrainian National Federation: 5213 Hutchison, Montréal, Québec. Accessible by bus: 80 Du Parc or 51 Édouard-Montpetit. Métro Laurier.

Tuition:
The cost of tuition for one week at Rock Camp for Girls Montreal is $250. We also have a limited amount of funds set aside to offer partial and full scholarships for campers.
